Performs cardiopulmonary diagnostic procedures upon patients with suspected deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Performs calibration, maintenance, and quality control procedures. Monitors oxygen therapy on the General Floors. Performs Pulmonary Function Studies and ECGs on adult and pediatric patients. Performs Arterial Blood Gas acquisition and analysis. Administers testing procedures in a cost-effective manner; and in accordance with physicians written orders, protocols, and clinical pathways. Administers respiratory care treatments and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of Physician by prescription. May recommend, evaluate and perform both basic and advanced respiratory care procedures by performing the following duties.
Associates Degree or equivalent from a two-year AMA approved school for Respiratory Care required; Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Care preferred.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:
Pulmonary function laboratory experience preferred.
REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:
Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) and licensure by the State of Illinois as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) required.
Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist (CPFT) by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) desirable.
