GENERAL SUMMARY:

Responsible for supervising the operations, installations, maintenance and repairs of hospital and all related equipment and personnel assigned and providing support services to other areas of the department. All work to be performed in compliance with local and state codes. Incumbents are subject callback as required by the hospital.


 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Assigns and monitors work, disciplines, trains, orients, and makes recommendations for hiring, promotions, discharge, and for staff assigned.
  • Oversees work assignments and contract activities of outside. contractors / vendors pertaining to his / her areas of responsibilities.
  • Performs and / or causes to perform installations, preventive maintenance and corrective work.
  • Maintains necessary supplies, equipment and tools to maintain all related operations utilizing the services of purchasing department.
  • Monitors and enforces safety regulations and practices.
  • Observes and adheres to safety regulations and practices.
  • Completes checklists of pre-scheduled building and equipment maintenance procedures.
  • Reports any major maintenance needs and recommends corrective action as appropriate.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required or directed by manager.

 

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Skill and proficiency to read write and perform mathematical calculations and measurements as normally acquired through official completion of high school or its equivalent.
  • Knowledge of computers, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, pumps and other associated systems as required for the operation of a hospital power plant acquired through experience and/or completion of technical or vocational school.
  • Maintains valid Driver's license. Knowledge of hospital/departmental policies and procedures and of hospital operation as normally acquired through 3 months on-the-job training.  
  • Must be available to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.
  • Excel in team settings to promote expected culture in the department.
  • Be able to take initiative on tasks and seek opportunities for improvement.
  • Experience managing competing priorities and problem solving.
  • Three (3) years of supervisory experience in similar operations

All work to be performed in compliance with local and state codes. Incumbents are subject callback as required by the hospital


 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

·Assigns and monitors work, disciplines, trains, orients, and makes recommendations for

            hiring, promotions, discharge and salary increases for staff assigned.

·Oversees work assignments and contract activities of outside contractors / vendors

           pertaining to his / her areas of responsibilities.

·Performs and / or causes to perform installations, preventive maintenance and corrective work of mechanical systems.

·Requisitions and maintains necessary supplies, equipment and tools to maintain all related operations utilizing the services of purchasing department.

 

·Monitors and enforces safety regulations and practices. Keep all policies and

         documentations current with regards to confined space, lock-out/tag-out, etc.

 

·Observes and adheres to safety regulations and practices.

·Contributes to a positive work climate and the overall team effort of the department.

·Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.

·Assumes responsibilities of Supervisor-Mechanical, when the position is vacant.



 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

·Skill and proficiency to read write and perform mathematical calculations and measurements as normally acquired through official completion of high school or its equivalent.

·Knowledge of computers, steam generations, refrigeration, boilers, chillers, pumps and other associated systems as required for the operation of a hospital power plant acquired through experience and/or completion of technical or vocational school.

·Have working knowledge of local, state and national codes and ordinances as they relate to power plant and its operation and the ability to properly interpret them.

·Current Stationary Engineers License issued by the City of Chicago and evidence of its annual renewal.

·Maintains valid Driver's license.

·EPA tested and certified and obtain a universal card on the use and recovery of refrigerant gases.

 


 

Experience:

Skill and proficiency in all phases of hospital mechanical systems, computers, steam generation, refrigeration, boilers and chiller operations and related equipment, emergency generators, and ability to read and use blue prints and schematics.  Knowledge of hospital/departmental policies and procedures and of hospital operation as normally acquired through 3 months on-the-job training.  Three (3) years of supervisory experience in similar operations
