General Summary/basic PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Clinical Educator for SMG's Point of Care testing is a professional nurse who supervises, directs and provides oversight to the point of care testing performed in the outpatient clinics. This person would oversee all clinical staff competencies. In addition, this professional provides consultation to clinical personnel and conducts and coordinates educational experiences. The responsibilities encompass assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical skills development, in-services and continuing education programs at the clinic level. The Clinical Educator for Point of Care Testing possesses the clinical skills necessary to provide expert opinion and guidance to a select group of patients. The Nursing Education Clinical Coordinator keeps current skills through regular educational experiences and assignments.
Job Summary
· Provide supervision of test performed by Medical Assistants at designated point-of-care testing locations to ensure that acceptable levels of performance are maintained; required to be accessible to testing personnel at all times testing is performed to provide onsite, telephone or electronic consultation to solve problems.
· Maintains documents and records in compliance with departmental, organizational and external agency requirements. Coordinates in-service education to assist caregiver in acquiring, maintaining and or increasing clinical skills (i.e., in-service attendance, competency records/ skills checklists, etc.)
· Provide clinical education for all clinical functions to Medical Assistants in the outpatient setting. Maintains documentation and makes it available when necessary
· Compiles reports related to progress toward attainment of Departmental goals (i.e., in-service productivity, competency compliance, etc.)
· Serves as a resource regarding educational issues or materials to SMG Clinics. Develop and annually review procedure manuals for all point-of-care test procedures and ensure that current procedure manuals are available, reviewed and understood by staff in the designated work area.
· Conduct educational activities and Coordinate preventive maintenance program for POCT equipment by establishing maintenance schedules and overseeing all equipment function checks and repairs. Monitor environmental conditions, protective equipment and practices in POC testing sites. Serve as technical and operational resource for SMG Outpatient clinics.
